CalSPAC

 

JLOCC is one of the Junior Leagues in California that is a member of California State Public Affairs Committee (CalSPAC) – a non-partisan advocacy and education organization charged with promoting legislation favorable to its member Leagues’ community projects and focus areas and tracking all legislation that would affect those projects and areas.  California’s CalSPAC is composed of two delegates from each of the 17 member Junior Leagues in California, representing over 10,000 voting women and over 80 community projects in the areas of Education, Family Support, Health, Violence Prevention, and Human Trafficking that are supported by over $1 million annually in project funds, grants, and gifts.

Since 1971, CalSPAC has represented the interests of its member Leagues and community partners at the national, state, and local levels. CalSPAC is composed of two delegates from the following 17 Junior Leagues across the state: Bakersfield, Fresno, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Monterey County, Napa-Sonoma, Oakland-East Bay, Orange County, Palo Alto-Mid Peninsula, Pasadena, Riverside, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, San Joaquin County, San Jose, and Santa Barbara.

 

 

FOCUS AREAS


EDUCATION
CalSPAC is committed to supporting education and enrichment opportunities for children that are developmentally appropriate, increase achievement and lead to workplace marketability in a safe, nurturing environment. Key areas of interest: AIDS education, the arts, bilingual education, early childhood education, job skills and training, libraries, literacy, mentoring, school violence, tutoring and media violence.

FAMILY SUPPORT
CalSPAC is committed to advocating for programs and policies that promote the physical and emotional well-being of families. To thrive, families need to live without hunger, hopelessness, and lack of resources. Key areas of interest: custody, family resources, foster care, parenting skills, self-esteem and welfare.

HEALTH
CalSPAC is committed to improving the mental and physical health of our community members through advocacy for improved access to quality health care and prevention programs. Key areas of interest: cancer, immunization, pediatric health, teen pregnancy and women’s health.

VIOLENCE PREVENTION
CalSPAC is committed to addressing the impact of violence in our communities through prevention, intervention and education. Key areas of interest: assault weapons, battered women, child abuse and child protective services.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING
CalSPAC is committed to ending human trafficking in all its forms. CalSPAC supports policies and programs that stop human trafficking, advocate for victims, and educate the community at large. Key areas of interest: sex trafficking, labor trafficking, victim support, prevention through education, and 360 degree approach.
