JLOCC Day of Advocacy

Saturday, May 12, 2018

8:30AM-12:00PM

Join JLOCC, our community partners, and elected officials as we talk about all things advocacy. Are you passionate about a local or state issue and don’t know where to begin? Are you already working as an advocate and want to hone your skills? Or do you just want to spend an amazing Saturday morning with others who care about helping others in Orange County and California? Then spend Saturday morning, May 12 with us.
We will be meeting at Lyceum Village in Tustin at 8:30 am for registration and a continental breakfast. We kick off the event at 9AM with one of three panels: “Groups Who Advocate”. Our panelists are from Junior League of Orange County, CA, Inc., the League of Women Voters, and California State University.
Our second panel of the day will feature elected officials who will talk to the group about what they look for when advocates come to talk to them about issues. How should advocates prepare to meet elected officials, what do these elected officials want to see from advocates, and how much time will you have to make your case? Supervisor Lisa Bartlett, Irvine City Councilmember Melissa Fox, and Garden Grove City Councilmember Kim Nguyen will be joining us for this very informative panel.
Our final panel of the day will feature speakers who will talk about how advocacy gets done in our area. Eulynn Gargano will lead this panel of speakers who will talk about CalSPAC and other California work. Katherine Ahlswede will be joining us on this panel to talk about her work with CalSPAC.
Officially, the day closes at noon, but if you would like to stay and network or ask questions of the speakers, we will have some additional time at the venue.
All are invited to attend, but space is limited.  This event is Free.
