If you want to improve the lives of women and children in the Orange County community, train to become a better leader, and meet other compassionate, proactive women like yourself, the Junior League of Orange County, CA, Inc. (JLOCC) is the organization for you.
JLOCC will train you to become a more effective, organized, and confident leader.
JLOCC offers several workshops and training events designed to help our members develop their leadership potential. Some recent trainings offered by the JLOCC include:
Leadership Training: this suite of in-person trainings focus on providing JLOCC Provisional and Active member with the tools and resources to be a great leader.
How To Be Even More Mindful…To Help Keep Children Safe: as women leaders, we play an instrumental role – whether we have children of our own or not – to keep kids safe. Come learn: What to watch for in the community and the difference you can make. How to lessen distractions and become even more mindful in the moment. What is Kaitlyn’s Law and how you can help save lives. – Easy-to-implement tips to keep children safe – for you to know and also share with others. Myths and facts about child abuse and neglect in Orange County. What additional steps to take to advocate for all children. The presentation/training was offered by The Raise Foundation – O.C.’s designated Child Abuse Prevention Council. For more than 40 years, the nonprofit has been helping to prevent and stop the cycle of child abuse and neglect through awareness campaigns; training professionals; caring services through Family Resource Centers (FRC) and its own mobile FRC (Resources in Motion – RIM) such as parenting classes, personalized referrals to services, and food distributions; and collaborating with the community to help strengthen families.
JLOCC Book Club: recently, we read Orphan Train by Christina Kline. This book is popular fiction on the foster care system, and with JLOCC’s support of The Academy, Bear Hugs and Orangewood, it made for a good discussion among our members.
JLOCC will directly involve you in our community.
The Community Impact and Public Affairs teams of JLOCC includes several committees who volunteer to work directly with those individuals and organizations who need help in our community. Our full list of Community projects and initiatives, along with a description of the work they do, is listed under the Community Projects tab and the Advocacy & Public Affairs tab on our website. A sampling of those committees:
Junior League Juniors: this a program designed to inspire elementary school children (Kindergarten – 5th Grade) to be active members of their community, to promote volunteerism, and to expose children to local issues where they can make an impact both today and in the future. The goal is that our events will teach children about important issues facing Orange County and inspire them to continue to get involved and help better their communities throughout their lives.
Samueli Academy: JLOCC members have many hands-on volunteer opportunities on the Academy campus. We have been involved with facilitating their monthly Community Nights, as well as various events throughout the school year. We look forward to creating new and exciting programs that will broaden each member’s training experience and most importantly, positively impact the lives of each student.
Public Affairs: JLOCC is a leader in the community with its public affairs work that integrates advocacy, legislation, and membership in coalitions on community issue-based campaigns. This work makes change that helps build a better community in Orange County. The Public Affairs Council (PAC), advocates on behalf of JLOCC projects and educates League members about important issues that impact our projects, programs and the community at large.
JLOCC will introduce you to other women who are just like you.
Committee Work: JLOCC knows that there is no better way to build relationships and mutual respect than to roll up our sleeves and dive into work together. Through your committee work you will collaborate with other women on how to make an impact in your community and carry out that work as a team. Meeting and working alongside other women for the benefit of our community will build relationships to last a lifetime.
League Life Events: this committee coordinates social activities that provide an avenue for JLOCC members to meet and socialize outside of their regular placement commitments. It is the goal of League Life to organize a variety of fun events at which you can meet fellow members, make new friends, and experience the diverse culture of activities Orange County has to offer.
Neighborhood Meetings: twice a year, JLOCC hosts small neighborhood meetings for our members to gather and talk about the newest issues facing the League and to get the latest news. Our other meetings during the year are General Membership Meetings where our members gather in one location to hear dynamic speakers, hear the latest information on League activities, and catch up with other JLOCC volunteers.
